ENGAGEMENT – AMY + GORDON (APRIL 29)

I may be biased, but I have always believed that wedding photography is one of the first things a couple should book when starting to plan their big day (right up there with date, ceremony and venue).  You want to be sure that you have the right person working for you to ensure you capture all the key moments and memories.  I know I’m not alone in my theory as many couples book their wedding photographer well in advance of their big day.

So, it was more than year ago that I met with Amy and Gordon and signed on to shoot their upcoming wedding.  Since we decided to schedule their engagement session closer to the actual wedding and so much time had passed, I almost forgot how upbeat and charismatics these two are!  But no worries.  We had a fabulous time reacquainting ourselves during their engagement shoot.  We definitely got a whole range of pictures showcasing all shades of their personalities – from sweet embraces to bold poses and even an action hero jump shot. Love it!

Great job Amy and Gordon!  After such an enjoyable shoot, I bet I’m almost as excited as you two are for your summer wedding:).

WEDDING – SAM + JUSTIN (MARCH 25, 2012)

Sam and Justin had an intimate and romantic wedding.  It was a quiet affair, but a truly a magical one.  Set in a winery in Toronto, they exchanged vows by candlelight, surrounded by a modest number of close family and friends.

It was fun working with Sam and Justin.  We had a great time playing around with the rustic backgrounds of the winery.  Of course, the food and wine were exceptional.  Everyone had an unforgettable evening.

WEDDING – ZYRA + CHRIS (FEBRUARY 18, 2012)

Timing really is everything.

Zyra and Chris made an excellent choice scheduling their wedding so close to Valentine’s Day and during Ontario’s Family Day weekend.  Everyone is already in the mood for love, friendship and family, and I can’t think of a better way of celebrating than with a wedding!

These two are one of the sweetest couples I know.  What was most memorable about their special day was just how happy they were.  Don’t get me wrong!  Everything was beautiful from the venue (the Old Mill Inn is one of my favourite locations to shoot and the food is exquisite), to the decor (be sure to take a look at those incredible centrepieces) and the cake (Zyra’s family makes delicious cakes), but the true showstoppers were Zyra and Chris and how happy they looked to finally be man and wife.

Like I said before, I expect only good things for 2012!  We’re on a roll people!

WEDDING – ALLIE + RICK (JANUARY 21, 2012)

There was never a dull moment…

It’s a sign! Allie and Rick’s beautiful winter wedding tells me that 2012 will be an unforgettable year for Nikko Photography.

While my wife hung out at the Nikko Photography booth on Saturday during the Total Wedding Show, I was partying it up in Niagara-on-the-Lake. Although it was freezing, this couple and their bridal party were amazing to work with. They were willing to brave the snow to get some fabulous shots. Plus, I loved how their wedding truly represented the Canadian spirit with hockey pucks, hockey sticks, The Bay blankets and beaver hats (yes, you heard me…beaver hats). What was really nice was how Allie added her own creativity with subtle yet significant gestures. For example, she made the boutonniere that Rick wore, as well as the rose she accented her bridal gown with (she made it using material from her beloved grandfather’s old fedora).

Of course, it was Allie and Rick’s warmth, generosity and humour that made it an extraordinary evening. I feel pretty lucky I was able to be a part of Allie and Rick’s wedding and had the opportunity to capture wonderful memories of such a happy day!

Congrats Allie and Rick!

Fran Walczak - Nikko … what an amazing job you did at the wedding!! Thank you for capturing this truly spectacular day as it was meant to be remembered. I can’t imagine Rick and Allie trying to decide what photos belong in their album. I know this is just a small sample of the pictures you took because you were everywhere. I swear there were two or more of you at the wedding because you didn’t miss a thing. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!

NEWS – NEW YEAR! WEBSITE UPDATES! NEW MEDIA! (JANUARY 1, 2012)

Happy New Year!

I’ve always believed that the way you embrace a new year sets the tone for the next 365 days. So Nikko Photography will be starting things off on the right foot. The first order of business is that we’ve made some tweaks to the look and feel of our website, we’ve updated our portfolio page and we’ve allowed for user commenting on the site (tell us what you think!).

Next, I’ve decided to delve into the social media world and have started a Nikko Photography Facebook page (nikkophoto) and a Twitter account (@nikkophoto). Please be sure to check them out.

2011 was a fabulous year, but I have a feeling that 2012 is going to be even better.

WEDDING – COURTNEY + GREG (DECEMBER 4)

We ended 2011 with a bang.

I am so pleased that Courtney and Greg’s wedding was my last event for 2011. It was the perfect way to end a spectacular year of shooting amazing weddings and engagement sessions. Courtney and Greg live up in Barrie and their winter celebration was definitely a chic one. Photographing this wedding was just too much fun! Plus, Courtney and Greg are just such a considerate and generous pair, it was a pleasure I could be a part of their special day.

Congrats Courtney and Greg.

TRAVELLING – PARIS, FRANCE (2011)

If you read one of my earlier posts, you’ll know that on the day of my first year anniversary, I spent most of it shooting another wedding. Hey, I’m dedicated to my craft! Besides, I made it up to my wife by taking her to Paris in October as an anniversary gift for the both of us.

Come on! The Eiffel Tower, Louvre, Arc de Triomphe, Notre Dame Cathedral, Sacre Couer, La Défense, Palais de Versailles and so much more. We even went on day and night bike tours, complete with a boat ride on the Seine River.  So I think I totally get points for this. Heck, I think this also awards me get a “get out of the doghouse for life” pass. Right? Yah…I didn’t think so either.
