ENGAGEMENT – KIRBY + CURTIS (AUGUST 12)

Having just been through the process of planning a wedding (and thanking God that I don’t have to do it again), I sympathize with my clients currently undergoing the headaches and occasional heartaches.

I am especially impressed by couples like Kirby and Curtis who are organizing their wedding from a distance. These two reside in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and are having their wedding in Kitchener, Ontario. In fact, all of our interactions up until this point have been through email and phone. Amidst the chaos, we were happy to find some time for them to come down to photograph their engagement session.

It was wonderful to finally meet Kirby and Curtis in person. They are a fun and easy-going couple, and a blast to photograph. I especially enjoyed their personal salute to the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

ENGAGEMENT – ANGIE + JONAS (AUGUST 7)

It’s official! My little brother, Jonas, is biting the bullet himself and is getting married next year. He and his bride-to-be, Angie, had an engagement party to celebrate with family and friends. As best man, I am exempt from official photographer duties for their actual wedding (nice!), but I couldn’t help myself and had to snap some shots during their engagement party held at a cool, vintage pizzeria.

Welcome to the family Angie:)

WEDDING – APRIL + JULIUS (AUGUST 5)

April and Julius have a really sweet story about how they met – literally. April was hired to work for a cake company owned by Julius’ grandma. Needless to say that baked goods weren’t the only reason Julius kept popping by the store.

Years later, April and Julius had a wedding just as sweet as them.

P.S. The wedding cake was outstanding!

WEDDING – VICTORIA + EDMUND (JULY 23)

There are so many key and symbolic events involved in traditional Chinese weddings that photographing these becomes a whole other experience altogether. I’ve shot enough traditional Chinese weddings in that past so I was ready for Victoria and Edmund’s tea ceremony, the bride’s wardrobe changes, bride’s gifts to the groom and much more.

What I wasn’t prepared for was the heat – they got married during one of the hottest weekends this year! Victoria and Edmund were brilliant and didn’t even seem to notice the sweltering weather conditions. I, on the other hand, totally considered shooting the entire wedding in a tank top. I didn’t, of course …but for a second or two, I was seriously tempted!

ENGAGEMENT – ANDREA + DALE (JULY 17)

I love working with couples like Andrea and Dale. Having been together for over a decade, they don’t sweat the small stuff. Andrea and Dale are enjoying planning their wedding together and know exactly what they want to make their special day perfect for them. However, they aren’t so caught up in logistics that they lose sight on what is most important.

Awesome session guys!

NEWS – GOOD-BYE DOWNTOWN (JULY 15)

Sorry everyone for the delay in blog updates the last few weeks.

Not only has it been crazy busy with wedding season, but the wifey and I recently moved. We bid farewell to downtown condo living for a house on the north end of Toronto. While I loved the vibe and convenience of our old place (we lived right next to the Air Canada Centre), I am happy to leave the smaller living space, underground parking battles and insane traffic whenever there was a concert or sporting event.

So long citylife. It was amazing while it lasted.

WEDDING – ORIELLE + JON (JULY 9)

BUFFET CANDY BAR AT THE WEDDING RECEPTION! Need I say more?

Orielle and Jon spent the last year and a half completely immersed in their wedding planning and admitted that they had a blast the entire time. You could really tell – their wedding was so much fun! This lovey-dovey couple totally showed off their wacky side during the day’s festivities:

  • High-fiving before their first kiss after the ceremony
  • Killing the classic jumping shots
  • And my personal favourite, the buffet candy bar at the reception

As the photographer, Orielle and Jon’s wedding day was entertaining and truly a pleasure to shoot.

Ceremony: St. Patrick’s Parish in Markham, Ontario
Reception: The Manor in Kettleby, Ontario

WEDDING – ROSE + DOMENIC (JULY 2)

True story. The last time I was on a boat, my wife and I booked ourselves for a sunset dinner for two during our honeymoon in Maui. Unfortunately, seasickness got the best of me and the night ended with most of my meal going overboard and me passed out at the back until the 3-hour tour was over. Needless to say, I was a little nervous about shooting Rose and Domenic’s wedding because it took place on a boat cruising around the Toronto Harbor.

Luckily, the boat ride didn’t make me sick and allowed for rather amazing backgrounds while photographing Rose and Domenic’s special day. Congrats to the happy couple.

Ceremony and Reception: Yankee Lady Cruises in Toronto, Ontario
